| Named
after a signatory of the 1916 Rising - was
originally Gregg Lane but was renamed Cathal Brugha
Street when it was redeveloped during the
reconstruction of O'Connell Street in the 1920's.
Cathal Brugha (1874 - 1922) was a leading republican
and was crippled in the rising of 1916. He presided
over the first meeting of Dáil Éireann at the
Mansion House in 1919 and became the first Minister
for Defence. |
